How do you improve Kokie Onyx...with Voodoo!
Kokie Onyx
Kokie Onyx looked very interesting in the bottle shifting from grey to purple so it peaked my interest. It formula is a touch thinner than the other Kokie polishes I have tried to so far but still has a good consistency. I applied three coats for opacity as it is a sheer polish but was never in danger of flooding my cuticles. I found it quite easy to work with and the color floored me. It's shifty and describing it is difficult. It's several beautiful shades of grey from light to gunmetal that flashes purple and blue and even a bit of taupe. If that was not enough it also has a fine dusting of holo as well that adds to the appeal. I added top coat before taking pictures. It's much prettier than the bottle would have you believe!
I had not intended for my flash to go off while taking pictures but it was meant to be it seems and I had to post it. Onyx was so pretty on my nails that I might have taken a few more pictures than I typically do but I regret nothing! Just look at that color... I did... under every light I could find and I loved it. This polish changes depending on your lighting quite a bit. Kokie nailed another one but so far I think this one has been my favorite! Now it's not hard for me to get excited about playing with nail polish because I look forward to the new ones the same way a kid might look forward to Christmas morning. The only difference is that I am way luckier than a kid because for me it's Christmas several times a week. Being an adult has to have perks! My favorite part of it all is discovering that unexpected treasure and that is how Onyx made me feel. This one is not getting put away yet, I would like to see how it performs when layered with other colors and it might just pop up on future posts.
So what do you do with a gorgeous color shifting manicure? You take it to the next level! I like having things with more than one purpose and I noticed how pigmented Voodoo was when I wore it on the weekend. I wanted to add a color that would compliment Onyx and it did not take me long to choose Voodoo. I was asked more than once where I got my nails done while I had this combo on. It felt so satisfying to say, I did them myself! You do not need to spend tons of money to get a professional looking manicure. A simple clear jelly stamper and a bit of practice is all you need for this look. (I still consider myself very much a noobie when it comes to nail art) I now take the money I would have spent on a manicure and spend it on nail polish.
Kokie Voodoo
Voodoo is from the Rapidgel line. It's a really deep and vampy purple that I put on while I was testing different looks I wanted to try and I intermediately moved it to the side of my work station because I knew I wanted to play with it some more. I used to say that I was not a big fan of creme polishes but that turned out to be a lie when I thought about it. I love smooth and glossy polished nails. I think that because creme polishes are pretty much the standard, I was trying to find something different. I have found that after wearing glitter or busy nail art a good creme polish is heaven. Voodoo applied incredibly well with a buttery smooth consistency and the color was calling to me. It had excellent opacity, I applied two coats, and I knew I would be wearing it again but I also wanted to try to use it as a stamping polish. I applied my usual two layers of base coat when wearing a polish this color because some lessons have been learned the hard way! I cannot advise you one way or another if Voodoo will or won't stain your nails but my rule book calls for logic on this one. When I removed it after a day of wearing it I did not have any staining. It could be because I took precautions by doubling up my base or it could be because it doesn't stain. I loved the way these two colors worked together even though they are from different polish lines. Currently, Kokie Cosmetics’ entire line of professional grade nail polishes are available at select Bed Bath & Beyond, Harmon, and Christmas Tree stores. You can also order online from Kokie directly and it's very affordable. You really should check them out ! think that after playing with their nail polishes I might just have to give their makeup a try as well. It's a tough job but I think I know just the girl to do it!
